A review of John M. Wills book "Targeted
(Chicago Warriors)
I read this book in the Kindle version (excellent)
A psychopathic killer/sniper is on the loose and he blames and targets
cops in Chicago.
I have read all of John Wills books and I am
able to discern his advancing skills in weaving a good story. The one thing that has remained constant is his love of the
Lord and his devotion to doing good for not only his own salvation but for those around him. The Godly love is evident and
in many respects not your typical experience with reading other "cop" books.
That does not take away from the gritty side of police work but it is refreshing to witness cops who are unashamed
to promote the goodness of the Lord our God.
John Wills is not
afraid of speaking some things that other authors pander with; and that is the extremely competitive nature of police work
and the interactions with both state and federal agencies.
This book is a worth while read and a quick read that is difficult to put down. Read the entire review.
Targeted, a Christian thriller by John M. Wills, is the third in the Chicago Warrior Thriller series.
It weaves together two different threads.
John M. Wills has written
about a subject he knows well. He's spent 35 years in law enforcement, receiving two of the highest awards given for valor
by the Chicago Police Department. He's also been an FBI agent.
With all his experience, he gives the reader an insider's look into the police force and the lives of those who work
there. Shannon and Benson are portrayed as real people, with their own lives and problems, foibles and blessings. And even
in the toughest of situations, they have their faith.
Readers
spend parts of the book with Father Matthews who is on the run and creating a new life outside of the church. They also are
with Benson and Shannon as they try to track down the virtually invisible cop killer who strikes silently with immediate and
deadly force. Wills does a good job of bringing the two seemingly disparate threads together in the unexpected climax.
Every book has a "thread" that ties it together. It might
be horrifically graphic murders or a search for true love or the loner who becomes the toast of the town. In this case, a
big part of the story was how faith carried the characters through hard times.
**Gripped By Fear was considered by the American Christian Fiction Writers for book of
the year, Suspense/Thriller category!**
"Gripped
by Fear . . . at first glance, reminded me of a Mary Higgins Clark book."
--CatholicFiction.net
Chicago Police Detectives Pete Shannon and Marilyn
Benson are thrust into the limelight when their first major investigation turns the city upside down.A
madman is on the loose, attacking women who travel downtown to clean offices. As the number of attacks
continues to mount, the detectives find themselves pressured by their boss to end this reign of terror committed by a psychopathic
rapist.
The community becomes outraged and protests at City Hall, causing the Mayor to demand
action by his police department. In the midst of it all, Marilyn learns some disturbing news that forces
her to choose between her loyalty to Pete and the man she loves.
Once again John Wills delivers a
nitty-gritty true-to-life "you can taste the atmosphere" story about the life of police officers on the often violent
streets of Chicago. Captured in the language and with a feel that only a cop from Chicago can deliver, "Gripped
By Fear", second in the Chicago Warrior series, reveals some of the heroism, fears, motivation and courage cops everywhere
can relate to.
Frank Borelli, Editor-In-Chief Officer.com
I thought the book was a terrific read. . . . I truly admired the unabashed love of God woven into your story and the individual human stories lived by
real cops. I loved the personal family dramas and the reality that cops experience when dealing with the social misfits
that plague our society whether it be Chicago or the Bronx.
You brought humanness to cop work and not what TV and the movies often portray. They
often make cops as bad as the scumbags out there. You made me wish I was a cop on the streets and I realized my life as an FBI agent
was a gift from Him . . ..

John, I just finished Gripped By Fear, and have read Chicago
Warriors earlier. I enjoyed both of them very much and hope you have more on the way. They are those books that you
want to read quickly to find out what happens, but you don't want the story to end! Thanks for the great work. Bill

. . . There are several things that I appreciate about
your content, such as giving the characters real-life personal problems and issues. You add things in their routines (working
out, throwing his gearbag in the back of the truck, etc), simple things that cops recognize as real-life cop stuff. And not
least, the presentation of the Gospel message and Christian lifestyle. Well done . . .
Bill Coleman (New Haven IN Police Officer #55 (Reserve)
John,
My husband recently purchased your book
for me while you were signing autographs at The Orleans. I just now finished the book.
I truly liked the story line of the book. I have to say that
the ending, with a summary of what happened to the characters really finished the story for me.
Now I will be
purchasing the first book in the series and anxiously awaiting the next one in the series.
Thank you for the pleasant
reading experience.
God bless, Carol J.
The second
in the Chicago Warriors series, Gripped by Fear is a not only a good mystery but also an exploration of the many challenges
faced by today’s law enforcement officers. It will be of special interest to readers who enjoy books
with a strong Christian theme.

John M. Wills, a veteran of thirty five years in law enforcement,
both as a Chicago Police Officer and FBI Agent, writes with a keen insight and deep understanding of the criminal justice
system. His police procedural novels are unique in that they are written on two contrasting levels--the gritty, often
times life threatening police incidents, and the many moral dilemmas faced by law enforcement officers in the pursuit
of their duties. In Gripped By Fear, the author has succeeded in creating police officers who are not amoral super
heroes, but decent human beings, doing their best under the most difficult of circumstances. Gripped By Fear is a great
read!
Chicago Police Officer Pete Shannon’s life
is about to take a dramatic turn. His wife has a dark secret that she’s about to reveal to him, his
partner’s life is about to be put in jeopardy, and worst of all one of his colleagues will present him with the biggest
challenge of his life.
Fellow
officer, Marilyn Benson, doesn’t realize it yet, but her life is about to change in ways that she could never have imagined.Forces of good and evil will do battle for her soul and her faith, which have lain dormant for many years. Both officers’ physical and spiritual mettle will be put to the test as they work the graveyard shift on the
mean streets of the “Windy City.”
Read this thrilling, Christian-themed novel that’s filled with stories of love, betrayal,
violence, despair and redemption, but most of all--exciting police action.
